STATEMENT OF PAGV CO-CHAIRS CYRUS R. VANCE, JR., AND MIKE FEUER ON SUTHERLAND SPRINGS MASS SHOOTING

Read the Prosecutors Against Gun Violence/Consortium for Risk-Based Firearms Policy Report on Firearm Removal in Cases of Domestic Violence

“As our hearts break after yet another senseless tragedy – and we confront the news that more Americans died from gun violence last year than the year before – we ask ourselves, ‘What can we do to prevent this carnage?’

“Yesterday’s shooter should not have been able to own a gun. A person with a reported history of assaulting his wife, an infant, and an animal should be stripped of the right to own a firearm. The facts are clear: domestic and animal abusers pose a heightened risk of violence.

“In the wake of the mass shootings in Texas and Las Vegas, leading prosecutors from across the nation will convene on November 28 and 29, in Washington, D.C., for an emergency summit on gun violence. We will meet with key lawmakers on priority legislation. As prosecutors, we firmly believe that our nation can, and must, address our gun violence crisis. Now.”
