Ongoing Training
The Training Unit assists all ADAs in gaining the skills and knowledge important for effective criminal prosecution. To this end, the Office offers a series of training programs to ADAs throughout their careers. Weekly lectures cover topics such as legislative changes (recently, stalking and DNA laws have been addressed), updates in case law, new forensic techniques, interpreting scientific evidence and testing, and advanced trial advocacy skills. More complex topics are covered by seminars. This year's seminars included two-day programs on DNA, homicide, and advanced trial advocacy. Finally, the Office offers advanced training programs on topics such as cybercrime, seizing computerized evidence, money laundering, examining a DNA expert, and stock fraud, which allow ADAs to stay abreast of the newest crimes, crime-fighting techniques, and legal changes. In addition to this in-house training, the Office participates with the New York State Prosecutors Training Institute, and sends ADAs to various programs throughout the state.
