Career Criminal Bureau
Several studies conducted during the 1970's concluded that as few as twenty percent of all criminals are responsible for eighty percent of all serious crimes. In 1975, the New York County District Attorney's Office became one of the first in the nation to establish a special unit, the Career Criminal Bureau, to focus prosecutorial efforts on career criminals. To date, the Unit has successfully prosecuted more than 7,000 of New York City's most active felons.
