Nicholas Brooks Sentenced for Murdering His Girlfriend Sylvie Cachay in December 2010

On July 11, 2013, Nicholas Brooks was convicted by a jury of Murder in the Second Degree for strangling and drowning his girlfriend, Sylvie Cachay, in December 2010. As proven at trial, on December 9, 2010, Brooks and his girlfriend were staying in a room at SoHo House, a hotel and private members-only club, when Brooks strangled the victim and forcibly drowned her in the bathtub in their hotel room. At approximately 2:10 A.M., a guest staying on a lower floor of the SoHo House reported a leak in the ceiling. Upon investigating the source of the water leak, hotel employees discovered the victim’s body half-clothed and submerged in the bathtub. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at approximately 3:30 A.M. Books was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in state prison on September 23, 2013.
