Lerio Guerrero Sentenced to 15 Years for 1998 Rape and Burglary of 28-Year-Old Woman on the Lower East Side

On October 23, 2012, Lerio Guerrero was sentenced to 15 years in state prison for the 1998 rape and burglary of a 28 year-old woman on the Lower East Side. On November 8, 1998, Guerrero followed the victim to her apartment and used to a piece of broken glass to threaten her and force her toward the rear of the building, where he sexually assaulted her and stole herwallet. Guerrero was not immediate apprehended after the assault, but his blood was later entered into a DNA database maintained by the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). Guerrero was indicted after the entry resulted in a match, and on October 9, 2012, pleaded guilty to all counts contained in the indictment: Rape, Sodomy, Burglary, Robbery, and Attempted Robbery.
