Matthew Melendez Sentenced to 20-Years-to-Life in Prison for Attempted Murder of Police Sergeants

On December 3, 2013, Matthew Melendez was sentenced to 20-years-to-life in state prison after being convicted of the top count in the indictment against him, Attempted Murder in the First Degree, as well as Attempted Aggravated Assault Upon a Police Officer and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, for firing a 9-mm pistol at two NYPD sergeants as they pursued him through Harlem during a 2011 shootout.
