D.A. Bragg: Man Indicted For Raping Acquaintance While She Slept
“Acquaintance rape is perhaps the least commonly understood form of sexual assault, but by far the most common element in the cases we see each and every day,” said District Attorney Bragg. “In fact, study after study shows that nationwide, the vast majority of rape survivors knew their attacker, much like we allege here. I urge anyone who has survived sexual assault to contact us at 212-335-9373 – our Special Victims Division and its Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau are well-equipped to help you in a trauma-informed, survivor centered manner.”

D.A. Bragg Announces Prison Sentence For Man Who Bit, Kicked And Spit On Five NYPD Officers
“Attacking police officers is unequivocally intolerable and unacceptable. Officers at the scene of this incident were already dealing with a chaotic situation where thousands were arrested, and then had to experience the despicable actions by this defendant. I thank the members of the NYPD who do so much to keep New Yorkers safe, and we will continue to pursue accountability against those who attempt to harm our officers in uniform,” said District Attorney Bragg.

D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Man For Two Shootings In Tompkins Square Park
“As alleged, Waldemar Alverio shot two people in Tompkins Square Park last month and put numerous lives in danger. Our parks should be a place where New Yorkers and tourists can relax without fearing for their safety,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Combatting gun violence remains my top priority and my Office will hold those who commit these serious acts of violence accountable. I hope the victims continue to heal from their wounds.”
D.A. Bragg: Man Indicted For Following Woman Home, Attempting To Sexually Assault Her In Her Apartment
“Women deserve to walk home without fearing that they are being followed or that they will be sexually assaulted,” said District Attorney Bragg. “As alleged, Vertell Dunham pushed past a young woman after trailing her to her building under the guise of needing medical care, before strangling her and attempting to sexually assault her. Thank you to our partners at the NYPD for their quick action arresting the defendant the next day – as he attempted to follow a college student into her residence hall.”
