DA VANCE: CAMERON MCDERMOTT INDICTED FOR RAPING AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TWO WOMEN AND VIDEO-RECORDING THE ACTS

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., today announced the indictment of CAMERON MCDERMOTT, 31, for raping and sexually assaulting two unconscious women on multiple occasions in 2010 and 2013 in Manhattan and taking photos and videos of the acts. MCDERMOTT is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with Predatory Sexual Assault, Rape in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, Aggravated Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, and Unlawful Surveillance in the Second Degree. “Cameron McDermott is accused of brutally raping and sexually assaulting two vulnerable victims who were incapable of giving consent," said District Attorney Vance. "He is accused of further violating these women by recording the acts without their knowledge. Fortunately, this defendant will face justice thanks to a diligent, court-authorized search of his computers and USB drives that uncovered the evidence of these alleged predatory assaults. Many rapists rape again; if you believe you have been a victim of this defendant, or of a similar crime, please call my Office’s Sex Crimes Hotline at 212-335-9373.”

"This defendant is charged with exposing himself in public and possessing child pornography in Nassau County, and our investigation uncovered evidence of the horrific crimes charged by our Manhattan colleagues today," said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. "District Attorney Vance and I share a commitment to bringing alleged predators like this defendant to justice, and our offices will continue to collaborate to keep our communities safe."

According to the indictment and documents filed in court, following the defendant’s January 2017 arrest in Nassau County for an unrelated case, a Garden City Police Department Detective executing a search warrant discovered videos and photographs on the defendant’s computers and USB drives depicting the sexual assaults alleged in this indictment.

As alleged, the defendant raped and sexually assaulted an unconscious woman inside apartments in the Murray Hill and Gramercy neighborhoods of Manhattan on eight occasions in 2010, and recorded and photographed the sexual assaults. The defendant further recorded and photographed himself raping and sexually assaulting a second unconscious woman inside an apartment on the Upper East Side on five occasions in 2013.

Assistant District Attorney Jamie Kleidman is handling the prosecution of the case, under the supervision of Assistant District Attorney Robert Ferrari, Chief of Trial Bureau 40; Assistant District Attorney Martha Bashford, Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit; Executive Assistant Audrey Moore, Chief of the Special Victims Bureau; and Executive Assistant District Attorney John Irwin, Chief of the Trial Division.

District Attorney Vance thanked the Garden City Police Department, specifically Detective Kevin Madden, and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance with the investigation.
