Notification Department
The Notification Department contacts victims for the purpose of obtaining a corroborating affidavit. A corroborating affidavit is essential to the prosecution of a Criminal Court case. A signed affidavit verifies the accuracy of the charges made by the District Attorney's Office in the criminal complaint against the defendant. A signed affidavit eliminates the need for the victim to appear in court unless the case goes to trial and the victim's testimony is required.
The Notification Department notifies victims of sentencing and victims' rights information on Supreme Court cases and ensures that victims receive their court order of protection in a timely manner. The unit also assists victims in making requests for a notification of an inmate's release from a city and state correctional facilities.
For more information about the services provided by the Notification Department, call 212-335-9374, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
