Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau announced the following promotions in his Office: Assistant District Attorney Daniel Castleman, currently the Chief of the Investigation Division, has been appointed Chief Assistant District Attorney. Assistant District Attorney Patrick Dugan, currently the Chief of the Rackets Bureau, has been appointed Chief of the Investigation Division. Assistant District Attorney Eric Seidel, currently Deputy Chief of the Rackets Bureau and Counsel to the Investigation Division, has been appointed Chief of the Rackets Bureau. These appointments are effective immediately and follow the appointment of former Chief Assistant District Attorney James Kindler to the bench. Mr. Castleman joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1979 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin and receiving his law degree from Columbia University School of Law. He was assigned initially to the District Attorney’s Appeals Bureau, and then served as an assistant in the Trial Division. He joined the Rackets Bureau in 1986 and was appointed a Senior Investigative Counsel one year later. In 1990, he was appointed Chief of the Rackets Bureau and he has served as Chief of the Investigation Division since May 1993. Mr. Dugan joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1974 and was initially assigned to the Criminal Court Bureau, the Early Case Assessment Bureau and the Indictment Bureau, spending a year in each bureau before his assignment to the Trial Division. In 1979, he was appointed a Senior Trial Counsel and in 1981, he was appointed Chief of Trial Bureau 70. He was assigned to the Rackets Bureau in 1986 and then appointed that Bureau’s Chief in 1993. Mr. Dugan attended St. Michael’s College and received his law degree from the University of South Carolina. Mr. Seidel joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1999. He was appointed Counsel to the Investigation Division and Deputy Chief of the Rackets Bureau in 2001. Mr. Seidel held legal positions at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the New York State Organized Crime Task Force and the Kings County District Attorney’s Office. Mr. Seidel graduated from Columbia College and received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School. ###
