Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau issued this statement following today’s verdict in the People v. Robert Williams:

“This was a horrific case and I would like to commend the victim for the courage she showed in this matter.  I know that her family supported her, appearing every day at the trial and I thank them for their commitment.

“Even though violent crime has dropped dramatically in New York, unfortunately, these horrendous cases still occur.  This verdict is an example of what can be achieved with the cooperation of victims, strong police work and excellent prosecutors.

“I also thank the jury for their hard work on such a difficult case.”
