Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau will be attending a White House reception tomorrow for the newly-appointed Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Justice Sotomayor is the first Hispanic and third female member of the highest court in our nation. District Attorney Morgenthau personally recruited and appointed her as an Assistant District Attorney for her first job after law school. He also testified on Justice Sotomayor’s behalf at her confirmation hearings. In responding to questions concerning her participation as a board member with the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, District Attorney Morgenthau said that, as himself, a founding member of the board, he encouraged Justice Sotomayor to become a board member, adding that “…one should never forget where they come from.”

The reception will take place on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the East Room of the White House.
