Steven Carter Sentenced to 25 Years-to-Life for 1986 Rape and Murder of Antoinette Bennett

On July 30, 2012, Steven Carter was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison for the rape and murder of Antoinette Bennett in 1986. Bennett was found in a playground area in St. Nicholas Park lying face down, partially disrobed, strangled and stabbed in the face. On June 21, 2012, Carter was convicted by a jury of Murder in the Second Degree after the DA’s Forensic Sciences/Cold Case Unit reopened the case and, using new forensic technology, uncovered sufficient evidence to indict and convict the defendant.
