What is a hate crime?
A hate crime is a criminal act that targets a victim based on the victim’s actual or perceived race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, religious practice, age, disability or sexual orientation.
Our Office responds to hate crime complaints with urgency, care, professionalism, and with the full force of our laws. Victims and members of the public can report bias-related crimes directly to our Hate Crimes Unit at 212-335-3100. You can also report crimes to the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force at 646-610-5267.
