Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the guilty plea of OSVALDO MARRERO, 35, for shooting and killing 44-year-old Anthony Holley at NYCHA’s Fulton Houses in Chelsea. MARRERO pleaded guilty in New York Supreme Court to one count each of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Under the terms of his plea, he is expected to be sentenced on August 1, 2024 to 16 years in state prison followed by 5 years post-release supervision.   

“Today Osvaldo Marrero was held accountable for killing Mr. Holley as he walked away,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We are working hard to address gun violence through proposing legislative fixes, investing in our communities and getting serious drivers of violence off our streets.”  

According to court documents and statements made on the record, and as admitted in the defendant’s guilty plea, on November 27, 2022, at approximately 9:25 p.m., MARRERO was with friends in front of a building at the Fulton Houses complex. After his friends left, he stood on the sidewalk holding a firearm at his side.   

Mr. Holley, who was a half block away at a deli, walked towards MARRERO, removed his own firearm from his waistband, and pistol-whipped him in the head. After briefly chasing MARRERO, Mr. Holley turned around and walked away. MARRERO then turned around, ran back towards Mr. Holley, and fired one round from approximately 30 feet away, striking Mr. Holley in the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.   

MARRERO was arrested on December 19, 2022, at a friend’s apartment in Harlem.

Former Digital Evidence Analyst Mollie Somers and former Trial Preparation Assistant Laura Vorbach also assisted with the case.
