D.A. Bragg Announces Guilty Plea In Assault That Injured Police Officers And 77-Year-Old Woman

October 17, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the guilty plea of MARVIN WHITE, 40, to the top count of an indictment charging the assault of a 77-year-old woman in an unprovoked attack, as well as two police officers who apprehended him in September 2024. WHITE pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to the top count Assault in the First Degree in full satisfaction of all charges. Under the terms of his plea, he is expected to be sentenced on November 13, 2025, to a promised sentence of 7 years in state prison.

“A 77-year-old woman was walking to urgent care when, as the indictment charged, Marvin White attacked her without provocation, before assaulting the responding officers. This defendant is now facing prison time for his deeply disturbing actions,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We take attacks on older adults and police officers very seriously and will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to keep our streets safe.”

According to the charges in the indictment, court documents and statements made on the record in court, on September 24, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 77-year-old woman was walking to Urgent Care in Kips Bay when WHITE approached her without provocation and struck her in the face with a plate.

The woman followed WHITE and informed the first NYPD officers she saw.

Police Officers Saul Rivera and Maria Corbisiero exited their vehicle and followed WHITE, asking him to stop. WHITE kept walking while holding a plate in one hand and high heels in the other. WHITE repeatedly turned around while holding the items up, causing Officers Rivera and Corbisiero to move back.

When Officers Rivera and Corbisiero got close enough to apprehend WHITE, he turned around and struck Officer Rivera in the face with the plate, shattering it on his face. Officers Rivera and Corbisiero apprehended WHITE on the ground while he continued to fight back and resist arrest. Officer Corbisiero injured her forearm in the process.

The attack on Officer Rivera resulted in several deep lacerations and substantial bleeding. He was taken to the hospital and received an estimated 75 to 100 stitches to his face. A month later, he underwent a second facial surgery to repair his injuries.
