D.A. Bragg Prison Sentence For Fatal Stabbing In Women’s Shelter

December 16, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the sentence of CHARMAINE CROSSMAN, 42, to 23 years-to-life in state prison for fatally stabbing her roommate, Victoria Goode, in a Midtown East women’s shelter following a dispute. On October 15, 2025, CROSSMAN was convicted by a New York State Supreme Court jury of one count of Murder in the Second Degree.

“Shelters should be safe places for New Yorkers in need, and any violence that occurs in them will impact some of our most vulnerable residents. Ms. Goode was preparing to get her own apartment and start fresh, until her life was tragically cut short by this brutal stabbing. I know her family, including her parents and siblings, continue to be devasted by their loss. I thank our prosecutors for presenting a convincing and thorough case at trial to achieve this conviction,” said District Attorney Bragg.

As proven at trial, CROSSMAN and Ms. Goode had been living together for nearly a month. On December 16, 2022, CROSSMAN complained to a supervisor that Ms. Goode was playing loud music. A few minutes later, CROSSMAN entered her room and began spraying air freshener at Ms. Goode and a friend. When Ms. Goode got up to leave, CROSSMAN followed her and began stabbing her repeatedly.

CROSSMAN continued to chase her in the hallways while holding the knife, until she eventually collapsed on the floor, bleeding profusely. CROSSMAN returned to her room and then left through a staircase door with a small backpack. A knife wrapped in a white towel was recovered in a trash can near the shelter.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Trial Counsel Dafna Yoran and Assistant D.A. Lauren Breen, under the supervision of Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).

Trial Preparation Assistants Grace Gallen and Mariana Zieve-Cohen, Major Case Analyst Anastasia Trico and the Witness Aid Services Unit all assisted with the case.

D.A. Bragg thanked Detective Robert Admirand and the entire 17th precinct detective squad.
