Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the sentencing of MITCHAUX BOOKER, 37, to 18 years in state prison for physically assaulting and causing the death of 15-year-old Jallen McConnie, his cousin, in June 2021. On October 29, 2025, BOOKER pleaded guilty in a New York State Supreme Court to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree.
MITCHAUX BOOKER is the third and final defendant to be sentenced in connection to McConnie’s death. In March 2025, JOHNETTE BOOKER, his sister who was entrusted with McConnie’s care, was sentenced to 20 years in state prison after being convicted at a jury trial of all counts, including Manslaughter in the First Degree. In June 2024, JOEVON MCCONNIE, his cousin, was sentenced to 3 years in state prison after previously pleading guilty to one count of Assault in the Second Degree.
“Mitchaux Booker conducted a prolonged and brutal campaign of sustained physical and emotional abuse of his own cousin, a defenseless, special-needs child,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Booker’s actions, including his decision to delay medical care and lie to authorities to coverup what happened, cruelly cut Jallen McConnie’s life short. No family should ever have to endure such unimaginable heartbreak and devastation, and now, those involved have all been held accountable.”
