Man Who Shot, Paralyzed NYC Neighbor Gets Sentenced, Prosecutor Says 
EAST HARLEM, NY — A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for shooting his East Harlem neighbor after she reported him to police for suspected domestic violence, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced the sentencing of Avery Dunning, 37, to 25 years in prison for the attempted murder of a 41-year-old woman, who was his neighbor, after she and her husband confronted Dunning about allegedly committing acts of domestic violence against his girlfriend in East Harlem in February 2023.

Avery Dunning, 37, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Daniel Conviser on charges including attempted murder and assault for shooting his neighbor Jemina Garay.
