Three New York City police detectives were charged on Monday in the theft of nearly $3,000 worth of Champagne from a V.I.P. area at a popular electronic dance music festival where they had been assigned to stop drug-related activity. Two of the three, Jonathan Gonzalez and Wojciech Czech, are accused of stealing pricey bottles of “Ace of Spades” Champagne at the Electric Zoo festival on Randall’s Island last fall, according to court documents. The third, Warren Golden, is accused of failing to stop them. “Public confidence in the criminal justice system depends on members of law enforcement acting with the utmost integrity while on duty and following the same rules that apply to everyone else,” Alvin L. Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, said in a statement.

Three ex-NYPD detectives have been indicted for their alleged roles in the theft of just under $3,000 in pricey champagne from VIP guests at the Electric Zoo music festival, Manhattan prosecutors announced Monday. Then-detectives Warren Golden, 31, Jonathan Gonzalez, 33, and Wojciech Czech, 44, were at the event on Randall’s Island on Sept. 3, 2022 for narcotics enforcement when Gonzalez allegedly put two unopened bottles of Ace of Spades champagne into a backpack, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Several bottles of the bubbly — which goes for roughly $1,500 a pop — were sitting in an ice bucket on a table in the VIP area at around 7 p.m. that night.

Dets. Jonathan Gonzalez, 33 and Wojciech Czech, 44, were each charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, according to the indictment. Gonzalez and Det. Warren Golden, 31, were charged with official misconduct. The three cops were on duty on Sept. 3 at the concert around 7 p.m. when they slipped backstage to the VIP section, according to the indictment.

Two New York City police detectives have been charged with swiping pricey Champagne while on duty at an electronic music festival, and a third detective did nothing to stop them, prosecutors said Monday in announcing indictments of all three officers. Detectives Wojciech Czech and Warren Golden were arraigned Monday and suspended from their jobs. Czech pleaded not guilty to felony charges of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property; Golden pleaded not guilty to official misconduct, a misdemeanor. Both were released without bail. A third detective, Jonathan Gonzalez, is due to be arraigned on all three charges later in the week.

A trio of NYPD detectives all played roles in the heist of $2,900 worth of champagne from VIPs at Electric Zoo Music Festival, prosecutors said. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg uncorked indictments against the detectives Monday. The detectives — Jonathan Gonzalez, 33, Wojciech Czech, 44 and Warren Golden, 31 — were on duty during the Electric Zoo Festival on Randall's Island in September when the theft popped off, authorities said. “In addition to the alleged theft that occurred, none of these Officers stepped up and stopped this activity," Bragg said in a statement.
