“New York’s red flag law is an essential tool for law enforcement to effectively address and prevent gun violence. My Office has recently utilized this statute in several cases where individuals with firearms were making serious threats to others, and we were thankfully able to prevent any harm from occurring. Gutting this law would significantly undermine public safety and I will continue to do everything possible to protect our state’s strong gun laws,” said District Attorney Bragg.

“Particularly in the warm summer months, New Yorkers need to know they can safely use our city’s many beautiful waterfront parks,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This individual allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted a woman in Riverside Park, and then attempted to prevent her from calling 911 by stealing her cellphone. Despite that, this brave survivor was able to call with help from a passerby, and I thank the NYPD for its quick response.”

“Vehicular violence threatens the safety of New Yorkers who have the right to walk and bike without fear,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Mahbub Ali allegedly drove while intoxicated, killing a bicyclist and injuring multiple others as they were out on a summer Sunday. My thoughts are with the friends and family of the young man who lost his life, as well as the victims who continue to heal from their injuries.”
