My Office has recently utilized this statute in several cases where individuals with firearms were making serious threats to others, and we were thankfully able to prevent any harm from occurring. Gutting this law would significantly undermine public safety and I will continue to do everything possible to protect our state’s strong gun laws,” said District Attorney Bragg.

“Particularly in the warm summer months, New Yorkers need to know they can safely use our city’s many beautiful waterfront parks,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This individual allegedly attacked and sexually assaulted a woman in Riverside Park, and then attempted to prevent her from calling 911 by stealing her cellphone. Despite that, this brave survivor was able to call with help from a passerby, and I thank the NYPD for its quick response.”
