Statement From Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on the Sentencing of Jerona Smith
“Older New Yorkers trusted Jerona Smith to deliver quality care as a home health aide. Instead, she used her access to steal their hard-earned money,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Jerona Smith was sentenced to incarceration for preying on the perceived vulnerability of her clients. If you or someone you know is above the age of 60 and may be a victim of a crime, please call our Elder Abuse Unit at 212-335-9007 or email EAU@dany.nyc.gov.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Sentencing In Fatal Fourth Of July Drunk Driving Crash
“Daniel Hyden has been sentenced to 24 years-to-life in state prison for murdering four New Yorkers and severely injuring seven others as they were enjoying an annual Fourth of July barbecue. Ana Morel, Lucile Pinkney, Herman Pinkney and Emily Ruiz went to the celebration not knowing that Daniel Hyden would end their lives that day with his pickup truck,” said District Attorney Bragg. “While this prison sentence will not reverse the fatalities, injuries, and trauma, I hope this sentencing brings a measure of comfort for those who were impacted by this mass casualty event. If you are intoxicated, do not get behind the wheel – it risks the lives of others, and you will be prosecuted.”
D.A. Bragg Announces All-Count Trial Conviction Of Building Super For Stealing $350k From 100-Year-Old Man As His Power Of Attorney
“Rosalind Hernandez stands convicted by a jury of her peers for abusing the trust of a 100-year-old, hardworking New Yorker to steal over half of his life savings as his Power of Attorney. She took advantage of his advanced age and the fact that English wasn’t his first language,” said District Attorney Bragg. “When the victim tasked Ms. Hernandez with selling his apartment and tying up his affairs, he gave her $100,000. For Ms. Hernandez, this generous gift was not enough – in her greed, she stole an additional $350,000 to spend on personal items.”

“I know the families of the two victims continue to struggle with the loss of their loved ones every day,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The defendant now faces a significant state prison term for his extraordinarily reckless conduct and extensive efforts to evade accountability. I thank our prosecutors for their hard work to prevent this defendant from fleeing the country and securing this strong measure of accountability.”
