Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the trial conviction of DAVIS LANGE, 26, for assaulting and raping a 23-year-old woman in his West Village apartment. A New York State Supreme Court jury found LANGE guilty of all counts of the indictment against him, including one count each of Rape in the Third Degree, Attempted Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, Attempted Assault in the Third Degree and Attempted Forcible Touching. He will be sentenced June 5, 2023.
“A jury of Davis Lange’s peers found him guilty of raping a young woman who had considered him a friend during a visit to his apartment,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The survivor knew and trusted Lange, and he callously violated that trust. We thank her for bravely coming forward with her story, which is what ultimately led to this conviction.”
As proven at trial, LANGE and the survivor knew each other and were friends for two years. On November 10, 2020, the survivor went to LANGE’S apartment, where she repeatedly rebuffed his sexual advances. LANGE eventually pinned her down on his bed and slapped her across the face multiple times. As she struggled to free herself, her head slammed into a wall. LANGE then raped her.
Assistant D.A.s Jonathan Carfagno and Caroline Rowley handled the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A.s Siobhan Carty (Deputy Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 40), Vanessa Puzio (Deputy Chief of the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau), and Nicole Blumberg (Chief of the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau), Shannon Lucey (Deputy Chief of Special Victims Division) and Executive Assistant D.A.
