Gibbs Is Seventh Defendant to Be Convicted In Violent Conspiracy and Retaliation Plot Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. today announced the trial conviction of TREVOR GIBBS, 25, for fatally shooting 26-year-old Hector Delgado in Harlem on April 11, 2023. GIBBS, along with six of his associates, conspired to commit acts of violence, including the murder, in retaliation for the fatal shooting of their friend, 19-year-old Jaylen Duncan on April 8, 2023. A New York Supreme Court jury found GIBBS guilty of one count of Murder in the Second Degree, one count of Conspiracy in the Second Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree on October 24, 2024. GIBBS is the seventh defendant to be convicted in this case and is expected to be sentenced on December 2, 2024. Duncan was allegedly murdered by MESSIAH NANTWI, an associate of the “One-Two-Nine” (“OTN”) crew. NANTWI’s case is pending and ongoing. [1] In response, GIBBS and his associates – all of whom have residential or social ties to NYCHA’s Lincoln Houses – believed they could retaliate by coordinating Delgado’s murder, who was a member of “OTN.” The defendants also planned a separate shooting incident. “Trevor Gibbs now stands convicted by a jury of his peers for viciously shooting and killing Hector Delgado, a fellow Manhattanite,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Gibbs coordinated this violent, deadly act of gun violence with the assistance of his associates as an act of retribution. My Office will continue to hold those accountable who jeopardize the safety of our communities with illegal firearms, and I thank the jury for their dedication and service.” ETHANIEL COLEMAN and JAMES FIGUEROA both pleaded guilty to Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Conspiracy in the Second Degree. KEVIN MEJIA pleaded guilty to Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree. KIMORA WRIGHT pleaded guilty to Manslaughter in the First Degree and Conspiracy in the Second Degree. IBRAHIM NDIAYE was sentenced to state prison time after pleading guilty to Attempted Conspiracy in the Second Degree. ANDRE CLARK was sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree. As proven at trial and according to the defendants’ guilty pleas, on April 8, 2023, minutes after the shooting and death of Duncan, MEJIA, GIBBS, COLEMAN, FIGUEROA and CLARK began communicating to discuss plans for retaliation. Later that day, FIGUEROA and COLEMAN went to West 131st Street and Lenox Avenue and fired multiple gunshots at a crowd of people. They believed that people in the crowd may have been associated with the individuals involved in Duncan’s murder. CLARK removed FIGUEROA and COLEMAN’s guns from the scene. In the subsequent days, the defendants expressed anger over Duncan’s murder through text messages and phone calls, and shared social media posts from others who mocked or celebrated the incident. For example, on April 9, 2023, in a group chat, NDIAYE wrote, “WE GOING TO EVERY BLOCK THAT SPEAK ON BRO NAME.” On April 11, 2023, the defendants learned that NANTWI was the alleged shooter in Duncan’s murder. MEJIA told another co-conspirator on a phone call: “That was the same person…who did that to Benz…that was the Messi…from Two Nine.” The defendants also exchanged news reports of NANTWI’s arrest. At approximately 2:50 p.m., GIBBS, COLEMAN, NDIAYE and WRIGHT discussed plans to retaliate for Duncan’s murder in a phone call. Approximately an hour and a half later, at the southwest corner of East 123rd Street and Lexington Avenue, GIBBS approached Delgado and shot him in the back of the head from point-blank range, killing him. GIBBS fled the scene and met WRIGHT at Marcus Garvey Park, who gave him the sweatshirt she was wearing so GIBBS could disguise his identity. The defendants celebrated Delgado’s murder. On April 12, 2023, during a phone call with another co-conspirator, WRIGHT stated, “THAT MAN MATTERS…THAT PERSON MATTERS TO PEOPLE, WE HIT A HOME RUN.” A few days after Delgado’s murder, WRIGHT told the same co-conspirator, “THIS IS A WAR, I DON’T KNOW IF THEY’RE NOT UNDERSTANDING YET OR THEY DIDN’T GET THE MEMO,” and “WE AIN’T PLAYING DEFENSE RIGHT NOW LIKE THIS ISN’T REALLY A GAME LIKE THIS S*** IS LIKE FOR REAL.” Assistant D.A.s Pierre Griffith of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit and Paul Barker (Trial Bureau 70) are handling the prosecution of this cases under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Christopher Prevost (Deputy Chief of the Trial Division and Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Investigative Analysts Jon Diver, Patrick Sullivan, and Jennifer Giambruno also assisted with the case. D.A. Bragg thanked the detectives and supervisors of the NYPD’s Gun Violence Suppression Division, Manhattan North Homicide and Shooting Enhancement Team, and the 25th and 32nd Precinct Detective Squads, especially Detectives Gerasimo Pyramides, Tamara Williams, and Harry Arocho.
