Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., today announced the extradition of FRANCISCO CAMINERO, 34, from the Dominican Republic where he allegedly fled during the pendency of his prosecutions for allegedly assaulting and raping his then-girlfriend, as well as possessing cocaine with the intent to sell. He appeared today in court on two New York State Supreme Court indictments charging him with Rape in the Third Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, and Coercion in the Second Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree. He is also charged in two additional indictments with Bail Jumping.[1]
“As alleged, Francisco Caminero attempted to evade prosecution of multiple felonies, including rape, by fleeing to the Dominican Republic for years,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We will never stop pursuing justice for survivors of crime and thank our law enforcement partners for helping ensure Caminero’s return to New York.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on February 4, 2018, CAMINERO allegedly assaulted his then-girlfriend in the presence of their 6-month-old child in his Inwood apartment. He repeatedly punched her in her face until she was severely bruised and covered in blood. He then refused to let her leave the apartment with her child until she had sex with him.

He repeatedly punched her in her face until she was severely bruised and covered in blood. As further alleged in court documents, CAMINERO told her she could not leave with her child until she had sex with him. Because she was in fear due to CAMINERO’s actions, his then-girlfriend had sexual intercourse with him.
CAMINERO was arraigned on both indictments on April 4, 2018, and released on bond. After failing to appear at two court dates, a bench warrant was ordered. In February 2019, CAMINERO was indicted for two counts of Bail Jumping.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Jonathan Junig (Chief of the Human Trafficking Unit) under the supervision of Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney (Chief of the Special Victims Division). Case Management Services and the Early Case Assessment Bureau provided assistance.
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs, the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo, and the FBI worked with the Manhattan D.A.’s Office to secure the arrest and extradition of CAMINERO from the Dominican Republic to the United States.
