Manhattan District Attorney L. “As alleged, Orsen Reyes brutally attacked a 48-year-old man on the platform at the 50th Street subway station,” said District Attorney Bragg. “New Yorkers deserve to be safe in our subway system, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to combat transit crime. I hope the victim continues to heal from this horrifying assault.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on December 30, 2024, at approximately 1:13 a.m., REYES stomped on the head of a 48-year-old man with his foot more than twenty times on the subway platform inside of West 50th Street and 8th Avenue. He then slashed him multiple times in the face and neck. REYES also grabbed the victim’s foot and attempted to pull him towards the tracks.

During the alleged attack, an eyewitness entered the subway station and called 911.

REYES was arrested a few minutes later, at approximately 1:31 a.m., inside of the subway station at West 59th Street and Columbus Circle, where he was covered in blood and possessed a knife and two screwdrivers.

The victim was brought to Bellevue Hospital where he was hospitalized for a week with a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures, and lacerations.

Assistant D.A. Caroline Edgar (Trial Bureau 60) is handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Charles Whitt (Chief of Trial Bureau 60) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Officers Azure Reid, Christian Medina and Chad Leed of Transit District 1.
