D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment In Unprovoked Attack At Penn Station

April 23, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the indictment of TYRONE MASSEY, 39, for an unprovoked stabbing in Penn Station in March 2025. MASSEY is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Assault in the Second Degree. [1]

“As alleged, Tyrone Massey approached a stranger in Penn Station and slashed him without provocation,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Violence has no place in our bustling transit system, and we will continue to collaborate with our law enforcement partners to hold violent offenders accountable. I hope the victim continues to heal from this terrifying attack.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on March 27, 2025, at approximately 2:48 a.m., near the entrance of Penn Station and the 33rd Street escalators, MASSEY approached a 35-year-old man and slashed his neck area with a razor, without provocation.

After the slashing, the victim went down the escalators where he was found by MTA police. The victim was treated, on scene, by EMTs for his injuries.

Assistant D.A. Jesus Castaneda (Trial Bureau 30) is handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Erin Tierney (Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 30) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).

D.A. Bragg thanked the MTA Police, particularly Officers Jackson Fontana and Peter Colavito.

This indictment represents the Office’s ongoing efforts to address crime in the transit system. For example, earlier this year D.A. Bragg announced separate attempted murder charges in a slashing incident at the 50th Street Subway station and stabbing at Grand Central station; sexual abuse charges for two alleged groping incidents on the subway; and a state prison sentence for a defendant convicted of three Port Authority slashings
