November 7, 2024

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the indictment of MARVIN DUPREE, 41, for allegedly stabbing a 19-year-old man in an unprovoked attack in Lower Manhattan in October 2024. DUPREE is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree. “Marvin Dupree allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old man in an unprovoked daylight attack in the heart of Lower Manhattan,” said District Attorney Bragg. “New Yorkers deserve to be safe on the streets of Manhattan, and random acts of violence will not be tolerated. I hope the victim heals from this brutal assault.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on October 16, 2024, at approximately 11:34 a.m., a 19-year-old man asked a woman for directions outside of 1 Centre Street. While they were speaking, DUPREE ran towards the man with a knife and stabbed him in the back below his neck.

When the victim turned around, DUPREE was holding a knife and smiling at him as the victim fell to the ground.

DUPREE fled the scene. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital to receive stitches for the laceration.

Later that day, DUPREE was apprehended by an off-duty officer who recognized him from the wanted alert, wearing the same clothing.

Assistant D.A. Ashley Maldonado De La Fuente (Trial Bureau 40) is handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Robert Ferrari (Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 40) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective David Porras of the 5th Precinct Detective Squad and Officer Yuneek Johnson of the 17th Precinct.
