Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of AMIR THOMPSON, 24, for allegedly stabbing a stranger at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and threatening a police officer with a knife in April 2025. THOMPSON is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Assault in the Second Degree; one count of Menacing a Police Officer; and one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, among other charges. “We bring charges when alleged stranger assaults occur,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This defendant is also facing charges for threatening a police officer with a knife, and I want to be clear that we have no tolerance for anyone who threatens members of the NYPD or put them in harm’s way.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record, at approximately 2:00 a.m. on April 4, 2025, THOMPSON approached a stranger at the corner of Greenwich and Liberty Streets and began swinging at the 57-year-old female victim. A physical altercation ensued and THOMPSON allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the face and shoulder. The victim fell to the ground and THOMPSON punched her on the face and body.
A nearby police officer noticed the incident and approached the scene. THOMPSON allegedly pulled out a pocket-knife and pointed it at him, only dropping it after the officer drew his weapon and ordered THOMPSON to drop the knife.
The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital where she was treated for lacerations to her face and shoulder.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Abigail Balfour, under the supervision of David Hammer (Chief of Trial Bureau 70), and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Paralegal Jasmine Berger is also assisting with the case.
D.A. Bragg thanked Officer Daniel Defrancesco and Mohammad Mirza of the NYPD World Trade Center Command.
