D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Christian Millet For Killing And Dismembering His Step Grandfather

March 13, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of CHRISTIAN MILLET, 23, for fatally stabbing 65-year-old Edwin Echevarria, dismembering his body, and wrapping up his body parts in bags and putting them in the East River in February 2025. MILLET is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Murder in the Second Degree and one count of Concealment of a Human Corpse. [1]

“Christian Millet allegedly committed a shocking and brutal murder, and my thoughts are with Mr. Echevarria’s loved ones,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I want to thank our prosecutors and the NYPD detectives who worked quickly and diligently to connect the facts and evidence in this case. I want New Yorkers to know that we have the deep expertise to bring even the most challenging cases.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, MILLET was the grandson of Mr. Echevarria’s ex-girlfriend. They periodically lived with Mr. Echevarria and had repeated arguments over several years in their Lower East Side apartment.

On February 2, 2025, MILLET attacked Mr. Echevarria with a homemade ice pick while he was on the phone. MILLET stomped and kicked him in the head and then repeatedly stabbed him, including at least 13 times in the torso.

MILLET then cut Mr. Echevarria into several pieces using a kitchen knife, wrapped the body parts into several bags and discarded them in the East River over the next several days.

A bag with Mr. Echevarria’s torso was found on February 5, 2025, and MILLET was arrested a week later. Police found a screwdriver and towels soaked with blood inside a bag at the apartment.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A. Kavita Bovell (Deputy Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 50) and Assistant D.A. James Waller, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Jessica Lynn (Chief of Trial Bureau 50) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).

D.A. Bragg thanked NYPD Detective Frank DeFranco, Detective Yeoman Castro and Detective Oscar Diaz of the Manhattan South Homicide Squad, Detective Anthony Ahwal of the 1st Precinct Detective Squad, and the NYPD’s Crime Scene Unit.
