December 8, 2023

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of ALBERT BROWN, 34, for robbing and forcing a 24-year-old woman to perform oral sex on him, at gunpoint, on a street in East Harlem. BROWN was charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Predatory Sexual Assault, one count of Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, two counts of Robbery in the First Degree and one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree on December 7, 2023. “Albert Brown allegedly preyed on a woman as she walked down the street when he used a firearm to rob her and coerce her into performing a sexual act,” said District Attorney Bragg. “These allegations are deeply disturbing, and I thank the prosecutors and staff of our Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau for working tirelessly to seek justice for survivors. We encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of or witness to sexual violence to call 212-335-9373.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on November 1, 2023, at approximately 6:30 a.m., the victim was walking near East 117th Street between 3rd and Lexington Avenues. BROWN, wearing a sweatshirt and ski mask, approached her and demanded that she turn over her belongings. He took her cellphone then pulled out a gun from his pocket. BROWN tapped the gun against her abdomen and head and sexually assaulted her.

BROWN fled the scene, going westbound on 118th Street. He was arrested on November 9, 2023, wearing the same clothes from the incident.

Assistant D.A. Katherine Demartini and Stephanie Ritter are handling the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Nicole Blumberg (Chief of the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau), and Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney (Chief of the Special Victims Division). Melissa Mourges; Coleen Balbert (Chief of the Forensic Sciences Unit); Chris Kamnik (DNA Specialist for the Forensic Sciences Unit); and Noah Taylor (Investigative Analyst of the Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau) are providing valuable assistance in this case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detectives Rosita Williams and Jerald Rivera of the Manhattan Special Victims Squad. He also thanked the entire staff of the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), particularly Katey Nori and Shannon Talty.
