D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment of Man For Scissor Attacks In The West Village

August 17, 2023

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of HASSON VICTORIA, 45, for attacking three men in approximately 10 minutes with a pair of scissors in the West Village in a series of unprovoked attacks. VICTORIA is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with three counts each of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, among other charges. “As alleged, Hasson Victoria lunged at three different men with a pair of scissors over the span of minutes — all during the morning rush hour — on public streets,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I want New Yorkers to know that we treat these violent attacks with the seriousness they deserve.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on July 27, 2023, at approximately 9:20 a.m., VICTORIA attempted to stab a 28-year-old man with a pair of scissors near Hudson and Charlton Streets. Approximately five minutes later, VICTORIA walked a few blocks away and lunged at a 24-year-old man with the same pair of scissors multiple times, aiming at his chest. The man was struck twice in his right arm, causing bleeding. VICTORIA then walked towards Bleecker Street and Eighth Avenue where he used the scissors to stab a 45-year-old man in the neck, causing bleeding.

VICTORIA was arrested a few minutes later on West 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue. Officers recovered the scissors from his waistband.

Assistant D.A. Yuval Simchi-Levi is handling the prosecution of the case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A.s Annie Siegel and Harrison Schweiloch (Deputy Chiefs of Trial Bureau 60), Charles Whitt (Chief of Trial Bureau 60), and Executive D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Trial Preparation analysts Nehemie Eloiseau, George Nighswander, and Investigative Analyst Jayden Shephard are also assisting with the investigation and prosecution.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, especially the 6th Precinct, 6th Precinct Detective Squad, Transit Division Districts 1 and 2, Transit Borough Manhattan Task Force, and the Midtown South Precinct.
