Christopher Marrero Allegedly Attacked Three Young Women Near Union Square in Just Four Hours
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of CHRISTOPHER MARRERO, 23, for sexually assaulting three women near Union Square on December 31, 2023. MARRERO is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with Attempted Rape in the First Degree, Sexual Abuse in the First Degree, and two counts of Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree.[1]
“As alleged, Christopher Marrero sexually assaulted three women within the span of mere hours on New Year’s Eve,” said District Attorney Bragg. “From trailing a woman across boroughs on the subway, to pushing his way into a bathroom, to following a woman into an apartment building, these allegations represent some of New Yorkers’ worst fears. If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault, please call us at 212-335- 9373. We are committed to supporting survivors and holding offenders accountable.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, MARRERO followed a 21-year-old woman on the subway from Brooklyn to Union Square. When she exited the subway at approximately 10:15 a.m. and began to walk toward work, MARRERO continued to follow her. As they approached an alleyway, MARRERO grabbed her by the arm and attempted to pull her into it, but she was able to get away.
Less than two hours later, at approximately 11:50 a.m., MARRERO followed a 24-year-old woman into a single-occupant bathroom in a café near the corner of West 14th Street and 5th Avenue, forcing his way in before the door could close. MARRERO pushed her face-first against the door and attempted to remove her pants. Screaming, she attempted to open the door, but MARRERO held it closed. When she was finally able to open the door, MARRERO ran out of the café.
Finally, at approximately 2:00 p.m., MARRERO followed a 24-year-old woman inside the vestibule of her apartment building east of Union Square Park. He grabbed her by the waist and attempted to pull her away from the entrance until she was able to escape his grasp.
