D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Miguel Jiraud For Brutal Randall’s Island Attack On Biker

June 18, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the indictment of MIGUEL JIRAUD, 30, for allegedly attacking a 44-year-old woman without provocation as she rode her bike on Randall’s Island on May 16, 2025. JIRAUD is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Murder in the First Degree, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Robbery in the First Degree, and Assault in the First Degree. “A 44-year-old woman was riding her bike home from work when Miguel Jiraud allegedly brutally attacked her without provocation. To this day, she remains severely cognitively impaired,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This conduct is abhorrent. I hope she continues to recover from this terrifying assault, and I want to assure New Yorkers that we will ensure accountability for those who commit such acts of violence.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a 44-year-old woman left work at a museum in Harlem and began riding her e-bike home to Queens. Shortly after she rode across the footbridge from Manhattan to Randall’s Island, JIRAUD allegedly attacked her without provocation.

After the attack, JIRAUD allegedly stole the victim’s bike and rode away. Shortly thereafter, he threw her bike into the Harlem River off the Southern end of Wards’ Island.

The following day, JIRAUD called 911 at approximately 5:00 a.m., claiming to have first stumbled upon the victim’s body during an early morning walk. When first responders arrived, they found the victim unresponsive, lying on the riverbank, with her sweatshirt removed, and her shoes off.

The victim was transferred to Elmhurst Hospital where she was treated for numerous skull fractures, a puncture wound to her temple, and multiple abrasions. She experienced massive brain hemorrhaging requiring multiple surgeries to remove a portion of her skull and brain itself to control intracranial swelling. She remains severely cognitively impaired.

Assistant D.A.s Joshua Steinglass (Trial Bureau 40) and Christina Awad (Trial Bureau 40) are handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Shawn McMahon (Chief of Trial Bureau 40) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Trial Preparation Assistant Emily Edwards and Senior Investigative Analyst Natalie Bueno are providing valuable assistance in this case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective Anthony Ippolito of the 25th Precinct Detective Squad, Detective Charles Freitag of Manhattan North Homicide, and the NYPD Harbor Scuba Team.
