Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the indictment of MUSLIM BRUNSON, 46, for allegedly attacking two women in broad daylight in SoHo without provocation on April 7, 2025. BRUNSON is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. “As alleged, Muslim Brunson used a glass bottle to attack two women, almost killing one, who were simply walking in SoHo in the middle of the day,” said District Attorney Bragg. “These unprovoked attacks are deeply disturbing, and I hope the victims continue to heal from these terrifying assaults. Random acts of violence have no place in our city, and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to keep Manhattan safe. I thank the NYPD for its quick response.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record, on April 7, 2025, at approximately 3:02 p.m. on Broome Street, BRUNSON allegedly threw a glass bottle at a 28-year-old woman’s back, striking her beneath her right shoulder blade. BRUNSON then picked up a piece of the bottle and chased her with it while screaming.
Minutes later, he allegedly approached a 25-year-old woman and hurled the piece of glass into her neck, slicing it, and exposing her muscle, tissue, and veins. She was transported to Bellevue Hospital where she received emergency surgery. She was placed on a ventilator and needed a tracheostomy. She stayed in the ICU for over a week.
BRUNSON was apprehended minutes after the attacks.
Assistant D.A.s Mary Cate Simeone (Trial Bureau 80) and Nicholas Penfold (Trial Bureau 80) are handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Siobhan Carty (Bureau Chief of Trial Bureau 80) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).
D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detectives Albert Vitarelli and Anthony Ahwal of the 1st Precinct Detective Squad.
