Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the sentencing of JOSHUA MORCIGLIO, 31, to six years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for viciously slashing a store employee’s face without any provocation in a Washington Heights boutique. On July 26, 2023, MORCIGLIO pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to Assault in the First Degree.
“When New Yorkers go to work, they should not have to fear for their safety,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Joshua Morciglio’s violent actions inflicted serious harm on a store worker, and now he faces accountability. While today’s sentence cannot take away the pain, I hope it brings some peace to the victim.”
On March 26, 2021, at approximately 3:40 p.m., MORCIGLIO entered a boutique at 371 Audubon Avenue wearing a face mask. Unprovoked, he slashed a 22-year-old worker’s face with a sharp object. The resulting laceration required stitches and surgery to heal.
Assistant D.A. Victoria Meyer handled the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Bureau Chief Samuel David (Trial Bureau 80), and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).
District Attorney Bragg thanked the NYPD 34th Precinct Detective Squad, particularly Detective Michael Walsh.
