Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the sentencing of BRITTAN JONES, 31, to seven years in state prison for shoving an 85-year-old man onto the subway tracks at the Rockefeller Center station. On November 25, 2024, JONES pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree.
“Brittan Jones shoved an 85-year-old man onto the subway tracks in a brazen early morning attack at the Rockefeller Center station,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Those who commit acts of violence in our subway system will be held accountable.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, and as admitted in the defendant’s guilty plea, at 5:40 a.m. on November 15, 2023, JONES argued with an 85-year-old man who was sleeping on the bench of the Rockefeller Center southbound platform. The conduct escalated when JONES pushed the victim into the subway tracks before fleeing the scene.
After a witness called 911, the FDNY, MTA and NYPD responded and removed the victim from the subway track. The victim was treated at Mount Sinai West for injuries including a fracture to his right hip.
Assistant D.A. Ellina Cunningham (Trial Bureau 30) handled the prosecution of this case, under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Erin Tierney (Chief of Trial Bureau 30), and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division).
D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, especially Detective Jesse Jansky of the Manhattan Robbery Squad.
