D.A. Bragg Indicts Six For Violent Conspiracy in Retaliation Plot

May 23, 2023

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of ANDRE CLARK, a/k/a “Drekoo,” 24, ETHANIEL COLEMAN, a/k/a “Bam,” 21, JAMES FIGUEROA, a/k/a “Jowapp,” 20, TREVOR GIBBS, 23, IBRAHIM NDIAYE, a/k/a “Dre Ski,” 24, and KIMORA WRIGHT, a/k/a “Mora,” 19, for conspiring to commit acts of violence, including the April murder of Hector Delgado, 26, in retaliation for the murder of their friend Jaylen Duncan, 19, a/k/a “Benz.”

As charged by the D.A.’s Office last week, Duncan was allegedly murdered by MESSIAH NANTWI, an associate of the “One-Two-Nine” (“OTN”) crew. In response, the defendants – all of whom have residential or social ties to NYCHA’s Lincoln Houses – believed they could retaliate by coordinating Delgado’s murder, who was a member of “OTN.” The defendants also planned and coordinated a separate shooting incident.

All defendants are charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count of Conspiracy in the Second Degree. WRIGHT and GIBBS are also charged with Murder in the Second Degree, among other charges. CLARK, COLEMAN and FIGUEROA are also charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, among other charges.[1]

“As alleged, these defendants deliberately targeted a rival in an organized quest for vengeance, and now two families are mourning the loss of their loved ones,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This indictment once again shows how the easy availability of firearms continues to plague our communities. I thank our skilled prosecutors and our NYPD partners for their work to quickly identify the connection between these murders and put together this multi-faceted case.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record, on April 8, 2023, Duncan was shot and killed by NANTWI. Minutes later, COLEMAN, FIGUEROA, GIBBS and CLARK began communicating to discuss a plan for retaliation. Approximately 45 minutes later, FIGUEROA and COLEMAN went to West 131st Street and Lenox Avenue and fired multiple gunshots at a crowd of people who they believed were associated with the individuals involved in Duncan’s murder.

In the subsequent days, the defendants expressed anger over Duncan’s murder through text messages and phone calls, and shared social media posts from others who mocked or celebrated the incident. For example, on April 9, 2023, in a group chat, NDIAYE wrote, “WE GOING TO EVERY BLOCK THAT SPEAK ON BRO NAME.”

On April 11, 2023, the defendants learned that NANTWI was the shooter in Duncan’s murder. GIBBS told another coconspirator on a phone call: “That was the same person…who did that to Benz…that was the Messi…from Two Nine.” The defendants also exchanged news reports of NANTWI’s arrest.

At approximately 2:50 p.m., GIBBS, COLEMAN, NDIAYE and WRIGHT discussed plans to retaliate for Duncan’s murder in a phone call. Approximately an hour and a half later at the southwest corner of East 123rd Street and Lexington Avenue, GIBBS approached Delgado and shot him in the back of the head from point-blank range, killing him.

GIBBS fled the scene and met WRIGHT at Marcus Garvey Park, who gave him the sweatshirt she was wearing so GIBBS could disguise his identity.

The defendants celebrated Delgado’s murder. On April 12, 2023, during a phone call with another co-conspirator, WRIGHT stated, “THAT MAN MATTERS…THAT PERSON MATTERS TO PEOPLE, WE HIT A HOME RUN.”

A few days after Delgado’s murder, WRIGHT told the same co-conspirator, “THIS IS A WAR, I DON’T KNOW IF THEY’RE NOT UNDERSTANDING YET OR THEY DIDN’T GET THE MEMO,” and “WE AIN’T PLAYING DEFENSE RIGHT NOW LIKE THIS ISN’T REALLY A GAME LIKE THIS S*** IS LIKE FOR REAL.”

Assistant D.A.s Pierre Griffith of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit and Paul Barker (Trial Bureau 70) are handling the prosecution of the case under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Christopher Prevost (Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Unit) and Executive Assistant D.A. Lisa DelPizzo (Chief of the Trial Division). Investigative Analysts Jon Diver, Patrick Sullivan, and Jennifer Giambruno also assisted with the case.

D.A. Bragg thanked the detectives and supervisors of the NYPD’s Gun Violence Suppression Division and the 25th and 32nd Precinct Detective Squads, especially Detectives Gerasimo Pyramides, Tamara Williams, and Harry Arocho.
