“As alleged, Alex Borders went to extreme lengths to create a purported diamond company and steal from consumers, magazine publications, and an employee who put in hours of work for zero pay,” said District Attorney Bragg. “With the enactment of New York State Senate Bill S2832A, wage theft is now a form of Grand Larceny, allowing us to bring stronger charges against employers who exploit their workers. “The death of Jah’Meik Modlin, an innocent four-year-old child, is a tragedy that has scarred this city. That he died a slow and painful death, starving alongside his older siblings, somehow isolated in the heart of Harlem, is a stain on our collective conscience,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Today his parents are indicted for allegedly killing him through extreme physical neglect and persistent abuse with depraved indifference for his life. Our Child Abuse Bureau is working diligently to secure justice for Jah’Meik and to support his three siblings during this immensely difficult process. Manhattan D.A. Bragg has announced the indictment of 37-year-old Hansel Esparragoza for assaulting an 81-year-old woman on the Upper West Side on Friday, September 13. This was one of two attacks against elderly women on the UWS that day.
