D.A. Bragg Announces Guilty Plea In Fatal Stabbing On Pier 84
“Today, Luis Gil is facing accountability for fatally stabbing 33-year-old Hugo Morales in an unprovoked attack on Pier 84. The defendant’s egregious actions abruptly cut Mr. Morales’s life short,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Mr. Morales immigrated to America with the hopes of earning enough money to eventually build his mother a house in Guatemala. D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Nicholas Fuelling For Hell’s Kitchen Rental Scam
“Nicholas Fuelling allegedly stole approximately $20,000 from at least five individuals who thought they would be moving into a Hell’s Kitchen apartment. Instead, we allege, Fuelling’s lies left people scrambling for housing, and even left one victim effectively homeless,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Scarce housing is a breeding ground for fraud, and we prosecute those who take advantage of the hopes of prospective tenants. We believe there are more victims - please contact our Housing and Tenant Protection Unit at 212-335-3300, or email danyhousing@dany.nyc.gov.”
D.A. Bragg and Legislators Announce Bill To Address Systemic Harassment Of Rent-Regulated Tenants
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., said: “Our city is in the middle of a housing crisis which creates power imbalances between landlords and tenants. While many landlords play by the rules, there are unscrupulous individuals who seek to exploit the lack of affordable housing for financial gain. I created the Office’s first Tenant and Housing Protection Unit to address systemic harassment and other illegal activity, and our work has shown we need additional tools to prevent and deter this conduct from occurring. This new proposed legislation will create additional measures of accountability for those who systemically harass rent regulated tenants and create a deterrent to engage in this type of conduct. We must protect every unit of affordable housing, and I thank our legislative partners for their support on this critical issue.”
