D.A. Bragg: Landlord indicted for harassing rent-regulated tenants, including in the East Village 
Manhattan D.A. Bragg yesterday announced the indictment of Daniel Ohebshalom, also known as Dan Shalom, who is considered one of the city's worst landlords. (He topped the list via Public Advocate Jumaane Williams in 2023.)
Anya Johnston Facing 20-to-Life for Killing Neighbor: DA 
“Anya Johnston callously took the life of her neighbor Susan Trott, a lifelong New Yorker with a kind-hearted, generous spirit,” said District Attorney Bragg. “To Ms. Trott’s family and loved ones, Johnston robbed them of a friend, mentor and business partner. Since her loss, they have experienced overwhelming emotional pain, and I hope today’s sentence can offer them a sense of justice knowing Johnston has been held accountable.”
‘Worst landlord’ and his shell companies face 80 counts for harassment and other crimes 
The case against one of New York’s “worst landlords” got much clearer Wednesday. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced a wide-ranging indictment against Daniel Ohebshalom for allegedly letting some of his apartment buildings go to seed in order to harass rent-regulated tenants and force them to move out.
Anya Johnston Sentenced for Susan Trott’s Murder 
Judge Ruth Pickholz sentenced Anya Johnston to 20 years to life in prison on Wednesday following Johnston’s second-degree murder conviction for the 2018 stabbing of her neighbor, Susan Trott. Johnston’s five years of pre-trial confinement on Rikers Island will count toward the 20-year minimum she must serve before becoming eligible for parole.
