A man is expected to spend 15 years in prison for committing two back-to-back shootings in Tompkins Square Park last year, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Tuesday.

NEW YORK - Waldemar Alverio, 38, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to two shootings in Tompkins Square Park that occurred just five days apart in March 2024.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., announced the return of two stone sculptures to the people of Cambodia. The objects were recovered pursuant to several criminal investigations into trafficking networks targeting Cambodian antiquities, including that of SUBHASH KAPOOR.
US authorities return two Khmer artefacts to Cambodia 
The Manhattan District Attorney’s office returned two Khmer artefacts to representatives of the Cambodian government on 26 March. The two stone sculptures were recovered as part of a larger criminal investigation into trafficking networks specialised in Cambodian antiquities, including those tied to the smuggler and disgraced dealer Subhash Kapoor, whose dealings in artefacts from South and Southeast Asia led to his arrest by the DA's Antiquities Trafficking Unit in 2012.

“I am pleased that we have been able to return more than 30 pieces to Cambodia in just the past several years. That is a testament to the outstanding work of our investigators and prosecutors, and I thank them for their continued efforts to dismantle these smuggling rings,” said District Attorney Bragg.
