D.A. Bragg: Man Who Placed False Bomb By NYPD Times Square Station Indicted
“As alleged, Desean Maryat placed an imitation pipe bomb that forced police to clear the Crossroads of the World for more than an hour on a busy Monday morning,” said District Attorney Bragg. “He specifically chose to target the door of the NYPD’s Times Square substation, grinding officers’ movements to a halt. Thankfully, the NYPD’s Bomb Squad responded and moved efficiently to ensure everyone’s safety and allow visitors and commuters alike to return to Times Square.”

“Geovalny Alcantara allegedly assaulted a complete stranger in an unprovoked attack on a Manhattan subway that could have turned deadly,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The transit system is the lifeblood of the City, and we take acts of violence committed underground very seriously. Thankfully the victim received treatment for his significant injuries, and I hope he makes a full recovery.”

D.A. Bragg Announces Prison Sentence For March 2020 Anti-Asian Attack In Chinatown
“Manuel Morales will serve a state prison term for targeting, threatening and hurling offensive remarks at a man driven by his own hateful beliefs and biases,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Although the victim did not suffer any physical injuries, this kind of hate-driven conduct and racist vitriol contributed to an atmosphere of fear for not only the victim but other members of the AAPI community during the height of the COVID pandemic. In Manhattan, everyone should feel that they belong, and I hope the imposed sentence offers the victim a sense of justice.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Benedetto Cupo, Construction Companies, For Fraud Totaling Over $5.7 Million
“As alleged, Benedetto Cupo orchestrated numerous frauds over the course of years, stealing millions from hard-working New Yorkers’ wages and the public funds they rely on when hurt on the job,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Despite never filing tax returns or remitting his workers’ withholdings, we allege, his companies fraudulently secured substantial PPP loans at the height of the pandemic. This case exemplifies the work that my office's Rackets Bureau does each and everyday: protect New Yorkers’ wages and New York’s public fisc by uncovering corruption and fraud. I thank them for their work on this case, as well as the numerous partners who helped make this prosecution possible.”
