D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment of Man for Posing as an Immigration Attorney and Stealing Thousands of Dollars in Fake Legal Fees
“As alleged, New Yorkers looking to become permanent residents trusted Pablo Israel Ortega Cuenca to provide them with legal services, and he broke that trust by taking advantage of them and putting them at risk of deportation,” said District Attorney Bragg. “If you believe you or someone you know has been a victim of this type of fraud, we urge you to call our office’s Immigration Affairs Unit hotline at 212-335-3600 or via WhatsApp at 347-371-0877. Interpreters are available to assist non-native English speakers and we encourage all to reach out regardless of immigration status.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Guilty Plea of Executive And Company in Wide-Ranging Construction Fraud
“By corrupting the market, Lawrence Wecker and Joseph Guinta robbed legitimate MWBEs and smaller contractors of the chance to do business in New York,” said District Attorney Bragg. “These defendants engaged in multiple types of fraud and corruption, from committing insurance fraud to doling cash bribes. We will not tolerate fraud in the construction industry, particularly at the expense of New York’s workers.”
D.A. Bragg Announces 25-To-Life Sentence For Man Who Killed His Cousin, Hid Her Body In Plastic Container
“The defendant’s criminal conduct was an unspeakable betrayal,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Khalid Barrow strangled his cousin in her own home, all for his own financial gain. I am amazed by the resiliency of Nisaa Walcott’s family members, who have persevered through the horrific murder of their loved one by her own cousin. They attended the trial every single day, listening to incredibly disturbing testimony. No sentence can undo this family’s pain, but I hope they continue to heal from this terrible loss.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment of Man For Shoving 85-Year-Old Onto The Rockefeller Center Subway Tracks
“As alleged, Brittan Jones shoved an 85-year-old man into the subway tracks, fracturing his hip and causing him significant pain. New Yorkers deserve to ride public transportation without fearing for their safety, and we will hold accountable those who endanger others in our subway stations,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I wish the victim a speedy recovery, and thank the members of the NYPD, MTA, and FDNY who jumped into action to help him.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Indictment Of Man For Fatal Shooting In East Harlem
“Eric Nunez allegedly took the life of Antonio Felder in a fatal shooting in East Harlem,” said District Attorney Bragg. “While shootings are down approximately 23 percent in Manhattan so far this year, Antonio Felder was still one of 174 people shot in our borough – a devastating toll that illustrates why combatting gun violence remains my top priority. My thoughts are with his young son, friends and loved ones of Antonio Felder as they grieve his loss.”
D.A. Bragg Announces Guilty Plea of Eleazer Edelstein For Manufacturing Ghost Guns and Making Threats Against Former Girlfriend
“Today Eleazer Edelstein was held accountable for manufacturing ghost guns in his Washington Heights apartment, threatening the safety of New Yorkers in addition to directly threatening the life of his former girlfriend. Ghost guns are a dangerous loophole in our laws, making it possible for people to create deadly firearms from the comfort of their homes,” said District Attorney Bragg. “Today’s guilty plea further indicates the need for the New York legislature to make the manufacturing of 3D-printed guns and gun parts illegal.”
