Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. today announced the guilty plea of MILES MCNEAL, 27, for sexually abusing an 8-year-old student multiple times in a Harlem afterschool program. MCNEAL pleaded guilty in New York State Supreme Court to Course of Sexual Abuse Against a Child in the Second Degree. Under the terms of his plea, he is expected to be sentenced on September 16, 2025, to 5 years in state prison and will be required to complete New York State Sex Offender Registration. A full and final order of protection will also be in place.
“Miles McNeal is facing accountability for exploiting his position as a school employee to take advantage of one of his students, who was only 8 years old. This conduct is abhorrent, and I thank this brave survivor for coming forward,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We will continue to prosecute those whose acts threaten the safety and wellbeing of students in Manhattan. Our Child Abuse Bureau has the resources to support survivors and hold abusers accountable – call us at 212-335-4300.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record, and as admitted in the defendant’s guilty plea, on multiple occasions between September 8, 2022, and August 18, 2023, MCNEAL molested and sexually abused an 8-year-old at a Harlem afterschool program.
MCNEAL was the survivor’s afterschool and camp teacher. He would routinely take her out of class and away from other students into an empty classroom, where the abuse would occur. MCNEAL’S abuse escalated in severity, beginning with photographing the survivor’s body, then rising to sexual abuse.
Assistant D.A. Samantha LiTrenta is handling the prosecution of the case with Assistant D.A. Christina Kapalko under the supervision of Assistant D.A. Heather Buchanan (Chief of the Child Abuse Bureau) and Executive Assistant D.A. Justin McNabney (Chief of the Special Victims Division). Child Victim Specialist Sierrah Smalls and former Trial Preparation Assistants Ryan Dyke and Investigative Analyst Tessa Ferrall provided valuable assistance with the case.
D.A. Bragg thanked the NYPD, particularly Detective Denisse Caceres of the Special Victims Division.
