July 30, 2025

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr., announced the indictment of WILFRED CRUZ, 49, for allegedly firing four shots at a store belonging to the current boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend after a dispute in June 2025. Police executing a court-authorized search warrant at CRUZ’s home recovered three firearms and more than two dozen other weapons. CRUZ is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with eight counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, 31 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree.[1]

“Wilfred Cruz allegedly shot and damaged a storefront belonging to the current boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend,” said District Attorney Bragg. “My office’s Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Bureau and the NYPD’s 23rd Precinct kept digging, and, as we allege, recovered three operable guns and ammunition, and more than two dozen other weapons from axes to machetes. I thank our law enforcement partners for their ongoing collaboration to keep Manhattanites safe from gun violence.”

According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on June 14, 2025, CRUZ repeatedly argued with his ex-girlfriend, who is also the mother of his child, and her current boyfriend outside of the boyfriend’s storefront in East Harlem. CRUZ drove home, changed his clothes, and returned to the location before firing four shots toward the storefront, shattering the window.

On June 28, 2025, police executing a court-authorized court warrant at CRUZ’s apartment recovered three operable firearms and more than 200 rounds of ammunition inside of three safes in CRUZ’s bedroom. Police also recovered more than two dozen other weapons in his home and car, including knives and a switchblade, axes, swords, machetes, and an expandable baton.

Assistant D.A. Meghan McLoughlin is handling the prosecution of this case under the supervision of Assistant D.A.
