Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictment of GAVIN FERGUSON, 30, for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old man onboard a subway in Midtown in June 2025. FERGUSON is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with one count each of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree, among other charges. [1]
“As alleged, Gavin Ferguson viciously stabbed two commuters in an unprovoked attack during their morning commute,” said District Attorney Bragg. “This attack, which significantly injured both riders, took place onboard a crowded train, which potentially threatened the safety of surrounding subway riders. Acts of violence within our transit system will not be tolerated and I wish the victims a swift recovery.”
According to court documents and statements made on the record in court, on June 18, 2025, the two victims, who were commuting on their way home from work, and FERGUSON were onboard a southbound 5 train. At approximately 7:10 a.m., after the train pulled into Grand Central station, FERGUSON went towards the open doors to exit passing the 32-year-old victim, who moved aside to let him out. Unprovoked, FERGUSON allegedly punched the first victim in the face and a physical struggle ensued between them.
During the struggle, FERGUSON allegedly took out a knife and stabbed the first victim several times, including twice in the torso. Attempting to break up the altercation, the 28-year-old victim intervened, and tried to separate the two men. The first victim was then able to run out of the train car. As the second victim attempted to flee from FERGUSON, FERGUSON allegedly stabbed the second victim several times, including in the torso and buttocks. One stab punctured his bowel, which required emergency surgery and several days of hospitalization.
FERGUSON allegedly fled the station. A few hours later, FERGUSON was arrested at his workplace and officers recovered a knife. While at his workplace, FERGUSON allegedly changed and got rid of his clothing he was seen wearing at the time of the stabbings.
