Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., today announced the indictments of six defendants for allegedly conspiring to commit four gunpoint robberies in the Inwood and Washington Heights neighborhoods, including one in which a victim was shot, all within 24 hours in late September 2025. Each defendant is charged in a New York State Supreme Court indictment with Conspiracy in the Fourth Degree. The 23-count indictment includes various counts of Robbery in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree. [1]
“As alleged, these defendants conspired to commit four gunpoint robberies across Upper Manhattan within the span of just 24 hours,” said District Attorney Bragg. “The defendants armed themselves with firearms to carry out their conspiracy, and in one instance allegedly committed a shooting on a public street. This type of violence creates an atmosphere of fear for our communities, and I thank our prosecutors and law enforcement partners for putting a stop to it.”
As alleged in court documents and statements made on the record, within 24 hours beginning early on September 25, 2025, different combinations of the defendants allegedly coordinated and executed four gunpoint robberies. As detailed in the allegations, at least three defendants would drive to a location, look for potential victims, commit a gunpoint robbery and flee in a getaway vehicle. In total, the defendants are allegedly responsible for carrying out four robberies totaling 10 victims, using 4 guns. In furtherance of the robbery conspiracy, the defendants allegedly possessed and used several firearms.
As alleged, on September 25, 2025, at approximately 12:45 a.m., ANTHONY PEREZ, 29, in possession of a firearm, drove to a recording studio near East Tremont and Prospect Avenues to meet with MIGUEL CALDERON, 16, and MANUEL RIVAS, 20, who were each carrying a firearm. At the studio, the defendants took photos and videos of themselves with the firearms displayed. In the first alleged instance, at approximately 4:13 a.m., JESUS MENDEZ, 24, drove WILFREN CARBUCCIA, 20, JEILIN PORTES GUABA, 21, and RIVAS into Manhattan from the Bronx. At approximately 4:17 a.m., MENDEZ stopped in front of a deli on West 207th Street in Inwood. CARBUCCIA, carrying a firearm, PORTES GUABA and RIVAS exited the vehicle. CARBUCCIA and PORTES GUABA entered the deli as RIVAS, who was also carrying a firearm, blocked the exit. CARBUCCIA and PORTES GUABA allegedly approached two individuals from behind. CARBUCCIA pointed his firearm at the first victim’s head as PORTES GUABA ripped the victim’s chain from his neck. CARBUCCIA then hit the second victim in the head with his firearm while PORTES GUABA similarly attempted to rip the chain from his neck. The defendants fled the scene and drove to the Bronx where they entered a room PORTES GUABA rented at the Riverside Hotel.
That afternoon, in a second alleged incident, at approximately 2:20 p.m., MIGUEL CALDERON arrived at the Riverside Hotel in a second car. A few minutes later, PORTES GUABA and MENDEZ entered the vehicle and, between approximately 2:30 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., the defendants drove near West 178th Street and Audubon Avenue in Washington Heights. CALDERON, who was carrying a firearm, and PORTES GUABA exited the vehicle, approached a victim who was walking on the sidewalk, and stole the victim’s chain at gunpoint. CALDERON and PORTES GUABA returned to the vehicle and the group fled to the Riverside Hotel, where PEREZ met them later that night.
In a third alleged incident, on September 26, 2025, at approximately 3:47 a.m., CALDERON, PEREZ and RIVAS drove to a store near West 207th Street and Sherman Avenue in Inwood. The defendants, each carrying a firearm, exited the vehicle and approached four individuals who were standing on the sidewalk. The defendants robbed them at gunpoint, demanding their belongings and ripping the chains from three victims’ necks, before fleeing the scene.
A few minutes later, in the fourth alleged incident, CALDERON, PEREZ and RIVAS exited the vehicle near West 207th Street and Post Avenue, each still armed with a firearm. They approached three individuals who were standing on the sidewalk, and robbed them at gunpoint, demanding their belongings and ripping a bag from one of the victims’ hands. PEREZ shot one of the victims in the foot as he attempted to take back the bag from CALDERON. The defendants returned to the vehicle and fled Manhattan.
On September 27, 2025, RIVAS allegedly displayed a firearm in a story he posted to his Instagram account.
