The New York State Senate voted Wednesday to end the statute of limitations for reporting sex trafficking crimes. State Sen. Cordell Cleare is optimistic legislation to end the statute of limitations will pass in the State Assembly as well.
“Hate and harassment have absolutely no place on the streets of Manhattan and New Yorkers of all backgrounds deserve to feel safe,” said D.A. Bragg. “We will continue to vigorously investigate and prosecute these types of biased, violent attacks. My thoughts are with the victims as they continue to heal.”

“Salvador Almonte Jr. put workers’ lives at risk by lying to insurance companies and the State of New York. Instead of receiving the medical insurance and disability pay they deserved, his employees were left exposed and vulnerable because of his criminal conduct,” said District Attorney Bragg. “We will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to ensure the strongest protections for hard-working New Yorkers who put their safety at risk to keep this city moving.”
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York State Senator Cordell Cleare called on the New York State Legislature to stand with survivors by eliminating the five-year criminal statute of limitations for sex trafficking and extending the window for survivors to file lawsuits.
