“Kensly Alston and Halley Tejada allegedly murdered Nadia Vitels in her own apartment while she was moving in to start a new chapter in her life,” Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg said in a statement.
The young squatter couple accused of beating a Manhattan woman to death and stuffing her body in a duffel bag went on a wild shopping spree, got engaged while on the lam and even bought a diamond ring with the victim’s credit card to seal the deal, authorities said Thursday.
“Acquaintance rape is perhaps the least commonly understood form of sexual assault, but by far the most common element in the cases we see each and every day,” said District Attorney Bragg. “In fact, study after study shows that nationwide, the vast majority of rape survivors knew their attacker, much like we allege here. “As alleged, Carlton McPherson tragically took Jason Volz’s life in a vicious and completely unprovoked act of violence,” said Alvin Bragg, district attorney for Manhattan, in a statement.
